Colorful Canterbury Bells

Canterbury Bells or Campanula medium is a flowering biennial plant that can reach up to two feet high. Canterbury Bells are stately,upright and graceful plants which add to the beauty of any garden. While these plants are hardy for zones 4 to 10, I plant them successfully in the much colder zone 3. They return faithfully every 2nd year and they are always a joy to see.

Planting Canterbury Bells is relatively easy. I start mine from seeds indoors during winter but they can be planted directly in the ground in early spring. In addition to adding beauty to the landscape, Canterbury Bells make excellent cut flowers.
